Devotional

The purpose of these brief writings is to lead you into a greater understanding of God Almighty. It is through our understanding of God and his commands for us that we come to know love - true love. 1 John 4:19 "We love because he first loved us." How will you love if no one tells you of God's love for you? John 14:15, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." This isn't a threat, it's the result of faith in the life of the believer. The believer obeys the commands because he sees the love that God has for him and that all the commands of God are for his good (Deuteronomy 10:12-13).

And now, in order to prepare our hearts for this time of study, let us use the word of Paul in Ephesians 3:14-19 as a pattern for our own prayer. Please pray with me,

I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant me to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in my inner being, so that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith -- that I, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that I may be filled with all the fullness of God.
